My favorite part of teaching is giving hope to students who struggle to learn, showing them that they are capable of achieving anything. Helping them discover their potential and build confidence means everything to me.
A bit about me: While originally from New York, I moved to New England for college. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary/Special Education (mild-moderate) from Providence College. After graduating, I accepted a job at Perkins School for the Blind. While working at Perkins, I earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education (mild-severe) with an Autism endorsement. Additionally, I spent a year training as a Wilson Reading practitioner and becoming a certified Level I WRS Practitioner.
After five years in the classroom, I decided to start Hopeful Minds Tutoring.

I offer online Wilson Reading System tutoring for students across the U.S. who need intensive reading intervention. Using a structured, multisensory approach, I help students build skills in phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, and comprehension. My sessions are engaging, interactive, and tailored to each child's needs, ensuring they gain confidence and catch up to grade level. While working in small groups, I provide the tools and support struggling readers need to succeed.

"WRS directly addresses phonemic awareness, alphabetic principle, decoding, encoding, advanced word analysis, high frequency/sight word instruction, vocabulary development, single word automaticity and fluency with connected text, oral expressive language development, listening and reading comprehension with visualization, and metacognition." (WRS, 2023)
Wilson is designed for students not making sufficient progress in their current intervention and who haven’t been able to learn with other teaching strategies. These students typically require multisensory language instruction or a structured literacy lesson. As your child's WRS tutor, I would come prepared with lessons for each session.

When it comes to Wilson and homework help, I typically work with students PK-5 but make exceptions for older students performing below grade level. For people with disabilities in need of ADL skills intervention, job coaching, community outreach, and so on, there is no age limit!
My fees vary depending on the service and travel! Please feel free to reach out for specifics.
I am located in the Westwood, MA area, but am able to travel. I also accept virtual clients seeking Wilson Reading intervention.
Yes! I have a wide-range of experience and am happy to troubleshoot with you as we look for a way to meet your child's unique needs.
About a year ago, our son, in 2nd grade at the time, was struggling with math and was repeating a 1st grade curriculum. His general attitude towards math was dismal at best. It was at that time that we were connected with Catherine. Her skills single-handedly changed the trajectory of our son’s math journey. He went from a 1st grade math level to a 3rd grade math level in less than 12 months. Catherine’s overall demeanor, patience and optimism helped our son overcome his negative outlook regarding math and made it fun for him again. She has given him the tools to rebuild his confidence, work independently and perform at grade-level with his peers. Her communication is outstanding and she works with us through every concern/question. I can honestly say we don’t know what we would have done without Catherine!
Catherine (Hopeful Minds Tutoring) has been a blessing for my 9-year old son who has been diagnosed with reading based challenges. She is certified in the Wilson Reading System and uses it to help my son build his reading skills step-by-step. Catherine has a fun and creative way of approaching learning and my son loves working with her. This fact speaks volumes and makes things easier from a parent’s perspective. I am seeing a huge increase in my son’s abilities and confidence with reading, and I attribute this to the work he is doing with Catherine.
Catherine has been an indispensable gift to our family! She has taken my frustrated and discouraged dyslexic son and completely changed everything for him. He is now confident when reading aloud in any situation! It’s unbelievable. He reads every night before bed and willingly reads to his younger siblings. Her expertise and sweet demeanor were exactly what he needed.
Every student has unique needs for support. Tell me more about what you are hoping a tutor can do for you, and I will start on a plan to help you get what you need.
